How to Choose the Manual Grinder – Buyer’s Guide

Grind Adjustment

An excellent manual bur coffee grinder provides coffee at different fineness levels. This way you can make different types of coffee be it Pour Over, Cold Brew, French Press or Espresso, coarse or fine. If you want to try out different fineness, there are grinders with 10settings and more.

Material Quality

Grinders come in various materials including plastic. Such materials are durable and high-quality for long-lasting use. They are elegant and look great in any kitchen decor.

The stainless steel burrs and ceramic burrs have their advantages and disadvantages, here is a comparison chart.

DIFFERENCE1. Sharper than ceramic burrs
2. Good for light roast coffee beans
1. More longevity than steel burrs
2. Good for medium to dark roast coffee beans
Size (portability)

If you are going on a road trip, hiking the mountains, or camping, and you love coffee so much then you should carry a portable coffee grinder. Go for one in a small size and lightweight, so it does not take up much space in your car or becomes extra heavy luggage in your camping gear.

Easy to use and clean

Manufacturers understand that we live in a busy world with busy schedules. They make grinders that are easy to use and clean. Cleaning grinder is an important thing; it can make sure you get a clean and tasty fresh coffee.

Capacity in the context of this review refers to how efficient manual grinders are in terms of speed. As mentioned earlier, they are slow because they rely on human effort. They take time to grind coffee beans.

If you are preparing coffee for many people such as during a party, go for an electric coffee grinder unless if you have the energy and time to grind coffee for a crowd manually. The manual type is appropriate when making coffee for four people at most.

Why Grind the Coffee Beans before Brewing

In my posts, I always remind that grind the coffee beans before brewing coffee, because the flavor will start decrease after the beans have been ground, I believe you don’t want to waste your premium coffee beans, so please keep this thing in mind.

When you got a great coffee grinder, and you always grind coffee beans before brewing, then you will be possible to get a cup of coffee with great flavors.

  1. I will like to commend you for taking out time to write this article on BEST MANUAL BURR COFFEE GRINDERS – THE 5 BEST GRINDERS OF 2019. Seriously, my girl friend has been looking forward to owning a coffee grinder, because her father can’t do with coffee and she makes it herself. I am going to bookmark this page, so that she can make her choice of choosing the coffee grinder she wants.

  2. This was an informative post that was packed full of tips, hints, advice, and of course reviews of the best 5 burr coffee grinders for 2019. The last was what I stopped by to read about, but I learned a lot more, and it has actually provided exactly what I needed to select a manual grinder for my home use.

Up to now, I have been using an electric grinder, and it was working fine, but lately, after a few years, it just is not working as well as it used to. Cleaning, drying, and storing it has all been done by the book, but perhaps overuse is wearing it out. That is why I decided to check out a manual grinder.

I may end up buying two, one for light roast and one for dark roast coffee beans. We will see, but the models you have expanded on all look like they will do the trick. I believe I can compromise and get the JavaPresse manual coffee grinder as it meets pretty much all my requirements. We will start with that. Thanks for this really useful post, I picked up a lot about how to make a better brew of coffee!

    1. Hello Dave, I am so glad my review is helping you out! I think maybe your electric grinder is too old, it’s time to get a new one.

I will recommend the steel burrs for light roast and ceramic burrs for dark roast, so except the JavaPresse, you can consider the 1Zpresso which with the steel burrs, then you can deal with two different roasts. Thanks for commenting, I hope you will find out the perfect grinder.

Thanks for writing this review on best manual burr coffee grinder. I really like the fact that you take your time to bring the best of the best manual coffee grinder for this review. One of the reasons I like manual coffee grinders apart for how cheap it is compared to automatic is that it produces slightly better tasting coffee than automatic grinders because manual grinders don’t heat coffee beans during grinding. Most automatic grinders grind at high speeds, and the friction slightly increases the coffee’s temperature for a short time. I really like JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder with all the feature it has as a manual coffee grinder.

    1. Hello, yeah if you consider the budget, then you should look for manual grinders. I agree with you, the electric grinders may generate heat when using too long, but it is actually more convenient to use, so the manual grinders and electric grinders have their pros and cons, it all depends on what you need. Thanks for commenting!

  6. Wow! I never knew the magic of a great coffee is as a result of its grinder and not just the maker. I’m a coffee addict who can’t do without having the cool taste of the black beverage in its fullness.

Though, I’ve never grinded my own coffee beans to extract my coffee before. I always buy the finished products but this post has pushed me to give it a try by myself. I would love to extract it by myself, that should bring a new feeling of attachment to it while drinking it. The price of the JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder is pretty cool. I should opt for that.

    Thanks for sharing this post.
